THE PASSAGE: HELPING FIGHT HOMLESSNESS

The Passage is a homeless charity that helps to combat homelessness. They offer hot food, warm showers, clean clothing and arguably most important of all. Support. Both physical and mental health support. Helping them get back on their feet with training and help with employment.

I partnered up with good friend Simon Waller who has been working with The Passage for many years offering his time as a Director, videographer and photographer. He sets time aside each year to help them making a promotional film.

In 2019 however, he decided to combat it in a different way. An immersive VR experience.

‘Look the Other Way’ investigates how people respond emotionally when faced with the stark realities of homelessness.

Geoff Kearns knows those realities all too well and was keen to get involved in the project. Teaming up with filmmaker Simon Waller, Geoff helped construct the virtual experience used in the film as well as volunteering at the two installation days, where participants were asked to 'swap places’ with a homeless person for a few brief moments and then feedback on how it felt.

Homeless people often say they feel isolated and cut off from society, but by donating to The Passage you can help reconnect them with people, places and opportunities to thrive. ‘Look the Other Way’ challenges people to consider their response to homelessness and offers them a way to make a difference.
