PONZI VINEYARDS
The Ponzi story is one of real people, big dreams, and an unwavering commitment to making them happen. Ponzi Vineyards was founded by Nancy and Dick Ponzi back in 1968 in Portland Oregon. They’ve since retired and Luisa Ponzi has taken the reins alongside Bollinger groupe.
The new identity is centered around four expressive, earth-toned brushstrokes which root the brand in the Oregon landscape, whilst embracing earthy artistry. Key elements represented include the blue sky, fir forests, rolling mist, and the unique Laurelwood AVA.
We were tasked with creating a film about Ponzi and what it stands for. Trying to capture the raw elements of the unique landscape and environment the grapes grow in. Capturing macro detailed moments and beautiful sweeping wide shots of the rugged terrain.
The area the grapes grow in is absolutely stunning captured in this film which i edited. Working alongside Felix Morgan to create a bespoke track and finalising the film with a grade at no8. We wanted the grade to be very natural, nothing overly saturated but with a certain warmth to it. We wanted it to have depth, like the wine, but natural and not too over complicated.
We liked the idea of having grain in the graded footage as it’s a nod to old techniques as time has passed just like the wine.
The track crafted by Felix through a huge list of references sent to him really ties the whole thing together. I directed the VO at 750mph with our talent Jill really capturing the emotive world of Ponzi.
The only project i’ve ever worked on that i’ve been licking my lips for a glass of wine at 9am in the morning.

Earth’s artistry.
For Ponzi we used explicitly hand held camera movement and all natural lighting to help us capture these beautiful shots of Earth’s Artistry. Which is the strategy line for Ponzi Vineyard’s wines. Coupled with a beautiful warm and natural grade. Enhancing the warm natural earth tones and adding a little bit of grain to nod to film an older process that takes time to create vs digital. This mirrors the process of wine, it takes time to create and age the perfect wine.
We used the incredible Felix Morgan on the naturalistic soundtrack and Jill Winternitz’s wonderful tones it perfectly encapsulates the landscapes of Oregon that is the home to this beautiful wine.
