CARLING X UMBRO
Carling approached us for an activation campaign, re-designing a new Black limited edition can in partnership with Umbro as well as a limited edition t-shirt which has a limited run of 10,000.
We needed to do a stills shoot in order to get content for the packaging but that also doubled up as content for the film. We had a videographer assisting getting VHS camcorder footage as well as footage shot on a mirrorless camera.
We wanted a really exciting and interesting sporty look and feel to nod to Umbro but keeping it deep rooted in Carling with it’s fun and playful spirit.
Using the mixed media approach with stop motion style imagery, cutout paper effects and filmburns i built up a layered style. Partnered with sound design using stock sound effects and stock track layered up to build a more immersive holistic world.
Really fun project where i could let the creative juices flow and get stuck in with a brief of ‘make it really cool’ i set about creating this.
Was fun to use so many different elements and layers to build up something that feels quite exciting.
I also graded the footage myself keying out the colour and leaving in the red. Giving the black and white a high contrast and grainy feel which adds to the overall look.

Reviving an icon.
Carling x Umbro uses a combination of montage and collage elements. Combining scribbles and textures to help it feel more tactile and playful. Using film burns and noise alongside the black and white grade leaving the red que of the Carling Identity combined with red overlays and transitions made this piece feel pretty unique with subtle nods to both brands.
